The Impact on Travel
A 70% fall in international arrivals for the first 8 months of 2020
International Air Travel Falls
In 2020 across the globe, borders were closed and people were asked to stay home to prevent the spread of the virus. This lead to a 70% fall in international arrivals in the first 8 months of 2020 and continues to have an impact on flight capacity and the travel industry as a whole. Thanks to vaccines and less restrictions travel has now opened up much more widely!
Travel Industry
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) have reported that a staggering 62 million travel and tourism jobs were lost in 2020 due to the effects of the pandemic.
Travel & Tourism GDP fell from £238 billion (10.1%) in 2019 before the pandemic struck, to just £90 billion (4.2%), a mere 12 months later, in 2020.
Changing Consumer Behaviour
Here at Health and Fitness Travel, we've seen a rise, where restrictions have allowed, in clients taking extended wellness holidays in our more remote luxury destinations with some even chartering private jets to access retreats in a safer, more efficient way.
We've also seen a rise in those choosing to holiday domestically - opting for staycation retreats that help to boost fitness, wellbeing and immunity on soil closer to home.

UK Travel
You will also no longer need to quarantine once in the UK.
With regards to testing before you leave the UK for your holiday it will very much depend on where you are going and that country's requirements for entry. Destinations such as the Dominican Republic and the UAE currently require unvaccinated arrivals to present a negative result from a PCR test taken in the two or three days before travel.
Other countries such as Croatia and Greece will accept lateral flow tests instead of a PCR test for vaccinated travellers within 24 or 48 hours of your arrival. Some countries such as Cyprus require a test on arrival.
Countries such as the USA, Spain and France have barred unvaccinated travellers outright.
