From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with a cool drink, refreshing towel and glass of champagne, check-in is effortless and you're instantly made to feel at home.
This spectacular resort is suitable for all types of travellers, whether you're a couple, a family, or travelling alone, the resort is so spacious and elegantly designed that you won't feel pressurised to go anywhere or do anything. The space means if you're looking for peace and quiet, you don't have to go far to find it. I always find that if the staff are happy and enjoy what they do, it emanates onto the guests, and I saw this in abundance, as staff members were always willing to help with any request I had and go the extra mile.
Keeping fit and healthy was a breeze. There's the option of taking part in as few or as many exercise classes as you wish, and every day there's a fresh new printed programme with an outline of all the activities going on that day. From a core workout at 8am and daily yoga at 9am, to Zumba, beach volleyball, aqua aerobics, water volleyball and dance lessons, there'll be a class that suits you at a time that suits you. Two floodlit tennis courts are available, euro bungee, free-form swimming pools and nearby complimentary golf at the breath-taking Grand Coral Riviera Maya, designed by PGA champion and course designer, Nick Price. There's also the fitness centre open 6am - 8pm for a quick workout before relaxing and enjoying the evening's entertainment. For the families, there's a separate activity schedule for teenagers aged 13- 17 with access to a comprehensive games and activities room. And for the younger generation, there's the Explorer's Club, suitable for ages 3-12 that's fully supervised and hugely entertaining.
If you're looking to unwind and rejuvenate, there's the newly designed and refurbished 7,000 sq. ft spa by Pevonia, offering an impressive range of spa treatments of the highest quality with 7 treatment rooms that include private showers. The new hydrotherapy circuit offers a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, dynamic pool and relaxation areas for personal time out and relaxation. The included spa programme comprising of access to the hydrotherapy circuit and three comprehensive treatments was an excellent taster that gives you the opportunity to visit this wonderful spa and come out feeling like new.
No reservations are needed for any of the restaurants and with a choice of up to 6 restaurants, 5 of which are a la carte and 1 buffet (depending on which season you go), there's variety in the cultural cuisine to please any taste buds. There's also the option of in-room dining at any time of the day, which was a pleasure to have if you decide you want to lie in for breakfast or have an early night in with dinner delivered to your room. Every night, there's themed evening entertainment ranging from delightful musical productions, to exhilarating circus shows.
There is the option to upgrade your room to a Preferred Club Suite which entitles you to a more luxurious room, pillow menu, private adults-only pool, pool concierge, a separate private Club Lounge featuring daily continental breakfast, bar and complimentary internet access amongst other privileges such as upgraded room amenities and daily newspaper. With all of the rooms, you'll receive a daily Sundial newsletter listing all the activities, restaurants and bar opening times, along with the list of entertainment on that evening so you can choose exactly where to dine. The standard of the rooms are very high, and with the grounds kept in clean and pristine condition, you get the sense that everything's being kept in order, cared for, and looked after.
One of the many highlights of my visit was a number of excursions surrounding the resort in the region. I visited, and highly recommend, Xcaret. It's one of the world's most famous eco-archaeological parks with an impressive display of wildlife, cultural and entertainment shows, and unique opportunities such as snorkelling with dolphins, all amongst the archaeological ruins. My second favourite excursion was visiting the Tulum ruins, a historical attraction that was one of the last cities to be built and inhabited by the Mayans perched on the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Its history is fascinating and most of the guides are locals to give an authentic story and understanding of the intriguing tales behind the ruins.
Overall, from all the resorts I visited while I was in Mexico, Now Sapphire was my favourite. With its Mayan inspired architecture and truly friendly staff, you'll get a taste of Mexico and the all year round warm temperatures of the Caribbean.
